| Despite
pre-meeting and on-going showers
Gilgandra Speedway was able to
run the 3rd round of the Carline
Mufflers 2007/08 series. Bullet
chassis mounted Lachlan Onley
backed up his maiden feature win
at Gunnedah with a flag to flag
victory over Tony Barklimore on
the tight Gilgandra oval. |
| Entries |
| 12 drivers nominated for
Round 3. Barklimore returned to
build on his Round 1 points and
was joined by series points
leader Onley as well as Ward,
Hignett, |
|
| Towers, Roberts, Smith,
Dick, Renshaw, McKeown, Hickey and
Perkins. Most of these drivers had also
nominated for the NSW state title to be
held 1 week later at Gunnedah. |
| Heats |
| The familiar country
round format of 6x8 lap heats and a 25
lap Feature was run. Paddy Ward came out
fighting in Heat 1 leading Barry Towers
and Darrell McKeown over the line. Heat
number 2 saw a taste of things to come
with Onley showing Barklimore the way
home followed by Wayne Dick. The 3rd Heat
saw Darrell McKeown turn the tables on
Ward and Towers with his first heat win
of the current series. |
| Tony
Barklimore took out the 4th Heat from
Onley and Dick. Heat 5 fell to Lachlan
Onley's Mustang followed by Hickey with
Wayne Dick getting another 3rd placing.
The 6th and final heat saw another win go
to Barklimore followed by Robert's VE
Commodore and the Fusion of Barry Towers. |

| Feature |
| McKeown,
Perkins and Smith were
non-starters for the
25-lap Feature, resulting
in a starting field of 9.
Barklimore had the choice
of pole and went with the
outside spot as a shower
of rain had made the
inside line slippery,
putting Onley on the
inside front row. Onley
had no problem with the
track conditions on the
low line and went into
the lead at the fall of
the green. Some tight
racing at the front
followed. |
| Barklimore hounded
the young Mustang driver
all the way to the end
but could not find a way
into position 1. Hickey
hung onto 3rd. Roberts
again was a retiree with
the new Commodore and
Ward joined him on the
infield. This was another
meeting with little major
damage to machinery,
again proving you can
have close racing without
ripping up cars (or piles
of money). |
| Onley
leaves Round 3 with a 62
point lead over Michael
Hickey, who leapfrogged
Wayne Dick for 2nd. Tony
Barklimore's points bag
on the night moves him up
to 4th from 6th. |
