Lachlan Onley cracked his first Super Sedan Feature win in Rd.2 of the 2007/08 NSW Super Sedan Series at Gunnedah on November 3. The Orange NSW driver has been a competitor in the Series since the inaugural season and stepped up a notch with the introduction of his Bullet chassis Mustang for the new season. Heavy rain in the New England area around Gunnedah, including a heavy shower at the track mid-morning, had
the meeting in doubt but Promoter Barry Towers pressed ahead at the venue and provided an excellent racing surface.
Entries
Round 1 Feature winner and poinscore leader, Tony Barklimore was a surprise non entry amongst the 13 nominations. Dual series winner Paddy Ward, as well as Brett Smith and Bernard Roberts made their first appearance in this seasons Series. Robert's new VE Commodore had its first competition outing and scored a 3rd (Heat 4) and a 2nd (Heat 6) in the heats.
Gary Pagel was another of the podium finisher in Rd.1 that didn't return for Rd.2. Ron Pyne was also absent from this round. The other nominations were: Lindsay Barnes, Darrell McKeown, Lacklan Onley, Brett Hignett, Barry Towers, Robert Carrig, Michael Hickey, John Perkins, Wayne Dick and Peter Renshaw.
Heats
6x8 lap heats leading into a 25 lap Feature was the program for the Supers. Wayne Dick steered his Monaro to 2 wins (Heats 1 and 3). Ford bodied cars scored a trifecta in Heat 2 with Barry Towers taking the win in his Fusion followed by Onley in the Mustang and Brett Smith steering his Falcon into 3rd.
Onley and Smith moved up a spot each in Heat 4 with Roberts bringing the VE home 3rd. Hickey took the 5th Heat with Smith powering home in the last followed by Roberts and Paddy Ward.

Feature
10 cars lined up for the 25 lap Feature.Brett Smith stuck his #N16 BA Falcon into the lead but couldn't build a gap to separate himself from Hickey's #N61 Pontiac. The field had split into two sections with Smith leading Hickey, Onley and Roberts who had moved his VE Commodore to 4th in the early laps. Leading the second group was Paddy Ward followed by McKeown, Dick, Towers, Perkins and Renshaw. Roberts retired to the infield with mechanical problems, the new VE had shown plenty of pace whilst it was circulating. Ward moved up to join the front running group.
Around the halfway point Onley, who had put Hickey behind him, worked a move on Smith and took over the lead. He was able to hold off the challengers over the remaining laps and cross the line for his first Super Sedan Feature victory. Following him over the line were: Smith, Hickey, Ward, Dick, McKeown, Towers, Perkins and Renshaw.
It was great to see a new name taking a win in the series and puts Onley in good form for the upcoming state title at Gunnedah on November 24th. The win also moved him into the lead in the series pointscore with Wayne Dick and Hickey just behind. Barklimore's absence sees him drop back to 6th, making hard work for the 2004/05 series winner and last seasons runner-up to get back to the top.
